Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust’s Rongoā Service is designed to support whānau using traditional Māori healing.

Rongoā is a holistic approach to hauora / health that encompasses all aspects of wellbeing – te taha whānau / social, tinana / physical body, hinengaro / mental, and wairua / spiritual.

This service is delivered with you at the centre with the aim to support your wellbeing and inner balance.

We have one Rongoā Practitioner who uses different modalities, such as:

  • Taonga pūoro / traditional Māori instrumental sonic healing
  • Mirimiri / traditional Māori healing practice that rebalances and restores function and releases deeply-held tension in the body through agitation of tissue, muscle, bone, blood and fluids
  • Romiromi / traditional Māori healing practice that is suitable for anyone who has pain, tension or restriction of movement, as it stimulates the internal organs and systems of the body
  • Whitiwhiti kōrero and karakia / pastoral care.

Sessions can be delivered one-on-one, whānau or group taonga pūoro sessions, when you are hapū and after your pēpi has arrived, or as wānanga / workshops to make a taonga pūoro.

If you haven’t used our Rongoā service, please book an initial consultation as your first appointment. During this time, our practitioner will kōrero with you about your overall health and wellbeing goals. The more you can share, the better we can support you. Please let us know if you prefer to have this appointment in person, online or over the phone at the time of booking.

Meet our Rongoā Practitioner

Mahina-Ina Kingi-Kaui, Kāti Hawea, Rapuwae, Waitaha, Kāti Māmoe, Kāi Tahu, and Ngati Porou.

Mahina trained with a cranial osteopath in Hokianga where she noticed the release of deep-seated trauma when cranial sacral therapy, and mirimiri was combed with taonga pūoro.

This led Mahina to explore how different frequencies, vibrations and instruments resonated with various parts of the body.

Before joining Te Puawaitanga, Mahina was a rehabilitation assistant in a sub-acute traumatic brain injury unit. She has a good knowledge of traumatic brain injuries, stroke, and spinal injuries.

Mahina invites you to book an initial consultation with her so she can support your hauora.
