Te ara hapūtanga (the pregnancy journey)
Programmes and services to tautoko you through te ara hapūtanga
Whānau Mai
Our services for te ara hapūtanga begin with Whānau Mai, a te ao Māori journey that prepares māmā and whānau for pregnancy, childbirth and the early weeks with pēpi.
Wahakura Wānanga
Our two-day wahakura wānanga is for whānau who would like to learn to make a safe sleep space for their pēpi. No weaving experience is necessary. We can also supply Māori pēpi with a wahakura.
Tamariki Ora Well Child programme
The Trust provides Well Child checks to whānau with pēpi and tamariki from birth to five years old. We come to your home and provide culturally relevant information and support about breastfeeding, being smoke-free, safety, first foods, sleep issues, child development, vaccines, oral health and any concerns you have.
Tamaiti Healthy Homes
Working in partnership with Tangata Atumotu Trust, Tamaiti Healthy Homes aims to increase the number of tamariki living in warm, dry and healthy homes to reduce avoidable hospitalisations and ill health due to housing-related conditions.

Whānau kōrero
Māmā of Whānau Mai participant’s kōrero
“I came home feeling full from the beautiful and healthy kai and this has supported my hapū daughter to understand more about what pregnancy involves. She came home happy and sharing what she has done and learned. Thank you for allowing her to be part of Whānau Mai. We will definitely be at the next one.”
Nakisha’s kōrero
Nakisha (35 weeks hapū) says, “I don’t want to cut my years short. I want to be smoke free for my pēpi. I don’t want him to smoke. I want my son to look up to me as a proud smoke free mum.”
Kelly’s kōrero
What an amazing place, making a positive difference in people’s lives. I went to a breastfeeding course and see our Tamariki Ora nurse through the Trust
