Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust is one of six providers selected across Aotearoa, and the sole provider selected in Te Waipounamu for the Tamariki Ora Well Child prototype pilot.
The pilot will enable the Trust to adopt an agile approach, improving services based on feedback from whānau, sharing insights and informing national policies. The prototype also aims to redesign and integrate maternity and early years health services across the motu, focusing on access and equity for Māori and all whānau. The pilot providers will test and implement their new way of working throughout the pilot. Insights from this phase will shape the transition to a nationwide child growth and development service.
The Trust will ensure a smooth transition for our identified participating area from July to June 2025, implementing and testing a new way of working, as well as the new ‘Ages and Stages Developmental and Behavioural Assessment Tool’ focusing on early engagement with hapu whānau, building strong relationships and conducting comprehensive assessments across the early years (0-5 years). Additionally, this prototype will be externally evaluated by The Southern Institute to ensure that whānau and kaimahi voice is enabled to direct the future of the Well Child programme.
The team will be working closely with Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Starting Well Team and our Māori relationships managers to deliver the pilot.
