Candice Cleave took part in Ngā Manukura o Āpōpō: Clinical Leadership Training Programme for Māori Nurses and Midwives. The eight-day programme consists of four 2-day wānanga spread over a 4-month period. is designed to offer the opportunity to participate in a Māori clinical leadership programme.
The programme aims to:
“The programme was an opportunity to be challenged outside of my day-to-day role,” said Candice. Her final project, alongside two other midwives, was creating a guideline for kaimahi / staff providing perinatal bereavement care to whānau in an inpatient setting, with the aim of upholding the mana for whānau experiencing loss and for those facilitating their care.
“It is my aim that this guideline will be implemented alongside a series of recommendations that empower kaimahi to facilitate culturally safe care and improve health outcomes for whānau.”
Renee Noble, Clinical Lead and Registered Nurse at the Trust also participated in the programme in 2021.
